Is God's Word Relevant Today?

Written By Esthermay Bentley-Goossen on 06 April 2009

God's Word:
. . . All those who were in distress or in debt or discontented gathered around him, and he became their leader. About four hundred men were with him.

Glen Beck Rising
by David Knowles
AOL News

"Forget about Rush Limbaugh, Rachel Maddow, Keith Olbermann, Bill O'Reily, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter and all the other headline grabbers. They've got nothing on FOX News's latest populist superstar, Glenn Beck. Though Beck has not yet overtaken O'Reilly and Hannity in the ratings game, he's gaining fast, with an average audience of 2.3 million viewers on the network whose VP for programing recently described as the "voice of opposition" to the Obama administration. And if it's one thing that Beck has got down pat, it's voicing opposition. . . . "

In context (I Samuel) we're talking about King Ombama, right? I mean. . . King Saul.
hehehe
This is SO relevant, it scares me!

Glenn Beck first won me over when he took up the cause for Terri Schiavo.

Beck is not King David, but he's got the following of those opposed to a godless government. That's for sure. I like Glen!

Wow.
He does have a following.
I think more and more Christians will see God's Word as relevant. It will either be seen as absolute truth or completely dismissed - until that day when POOF the CHURCH is gone!

I really love Glenn Beck and hope people began to listen to him.

So glad that I found your blog. Hope you will stop by my blog. I am going to have a "card box" giveaway every month. This drawing will be the last day of April. Every comment you leave throughout the month will enter your name in the drawing.

This NEW blogger was so touched by all the comments I got on the Blog Party, that I decided to make this a monthly GIFT...
Also, if you will mention my blog telling about the monthly giveaway, you will have your name entered 10 extra times...How is that for an incentive?
I was so blown away by all the responses that I wanted to email each person personally, but TIME... just has not permitted..but I did love reading all of them..I am continuing to introduce my family members and then there will be some fun blogs coming up from Disney World in May. I am so thankful for all my new friends.

The interesting thing about Glen (from the standpoint of True Biblical Christianity) is that he openly embraces principles and values of Biblical Christianity. I'm sure some of these other commentators the AOL article lists also embrace them to a point, but Mr. Beck makes them a part of his daily "agenda." This is good. He is a national voice for truth -- both political and biblical. (Well. . . as "biblical" as one can get in today's secular world.) I like him; and yes "discontented" people have "gathered around him."

I followed Glen Beck when he was still on CNN. I am glad that he is now on Fox. I don't agree with everything he says but he is on target with most things. I thank God that there are still some in the media willing to take a stand for what is right. Let us pray for these who are in the forefront of this battle.

I believe that we will see scripture more and more look as relevant as the morning newspaper. We have an amazing God and non of this is a coincidence.
Looking up.

Interesting how your post is so similar to mine, today. If Christians want to help their country, they will stand up and speak boldly, as Peter and John spoke before the Sanhedrin with boldness. There should be no such thing as a silent majority! If we love God and love our country, we should not be afraid to speak the truth.

Wow Esthermay!!! Looks like our prayers are being answered. And yes, many have referred to Obama as the King Saul of our day. We got the 'king' we deserved - not the one God wanted for us. I agree with Kate - that scripture is so relevant that is scares me too! But I'm glad we have a Sovereign God who sits a laughs at those who do evil.

Psalm 37:7,12-13
7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
12 The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them;
13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for He knows their day is coming.

Oh yes, my sister, God's Word is always relevant!

Looking UPward and Choosing JOY,

I wasn't sure about Glenn Beck when I first started watching him... But one thing he does is tell the truth and we need people who are not ashamed to tell the truth.

Bless his heart... "I love my country." Amen, Glenn Beck. Amen.

We need world changers... Disciples...People willing to take a stand for the name and prinicples of Jesus Christ.

Love you.

As a sister in Christ, I would like to make one warning about Glen Beck. He is a Mormon and as such his views will be colored by Mormonism. "Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves." Matthew 7:15

"The interesting thing about Glen (from the standpoint of True Biblical Christianity) is that he openly embraces principles and values of Biblical Christianity." -- Although it may seem he is embracing these principles, his idea of what these principles mean and where they lead are radically different from what the Bible (which he does not believe is completely accurate)teaches.

Although it may seem he is doing the work of God, in fact he is not. Take for example a glass of water. If you were to put a pinch of strychnine in the water and hand it to a thirsty person, even though it is water which would quench the person's thirst, the poison, although minute, would still harm the person drinking the water. It is like this with lacing the truth with lies, although you cannot see the poison in the water and the water may seem sweet, it still leads to death. There is only one pure Living Water which leads to life and it is Him that we must keep our eyes on discerning all things through His word.

Your sister in Christ,
Teri

Teri:

I completely agree with everything you said. The truth and the warnings about Mr. Beck's religious beliefs are "out there" for those who care to do their research. I can't say I "follow" Mr. Beck, but I do agree for the most part with his thoughts on where our government is going -- based on World and American History and the truth of the current state of our government and society.

I purposely did not elaborate on Mr. Beck from a personal standpoint in this post because I haven't fully determined if he is using his show on FoxNews Channel and his popularity in general to further the Mormon cause or simply his views on American history and/or politics. He's a slick one! :-)

While his 12 principles, etc. do seem "right" on the surface, I agree with you when you say, "Although it may seem he is embracing these principles, his idea of what these principles mean and where they lead are radically different from what the Bible. . . "You would know better than most of my commenters and even myself that Mormons to not embrace God's Word as absolutely inerrant, inspired and all-sufficient. Herein lies the "radically different."

II Timothy 4:3-4 says:
For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.". . . Many believers don't grasp the full import of these words of The Apostle Paul. Some "ear ticklers" out there are clearly proclaiming false doctrine and are preaching/teaching things that are clearly in defiance to the teachings given to the New Testament Church. Other "ear ticklers" are very well disguised (like Mr. Beck). . . . As a general rule, I don't think the average American distinguishes Mormonism from Christianity. And most Christians couldn't tell you where and exactly how Mormonism is a false religion. It's sad.

Mr. Beck's popularity makes me wonder if he desires to use his platform and popularity to indoctrinate his "followers" or not . . . It is a scary prospect as he gains popularity.

THANK YOU for your very, VERY! wise observations.
